A Church Where Jesus Christ Is Truly Magnified!

What We Believe!

.ABOUT GOD

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1, 26; 3:22; Psalms 90:2; Matthew 28:19; I Peter 1:2; II Corinthians 13:14

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father.

Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate his power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; I Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding the spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.  He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.

II Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14-17; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

ABOUT THE BIBLE

The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the Supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.

II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21; II Timothy 1:13; Psalms 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation.  Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin".  This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

Genesis 1:27; Psalms 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6, 29:1-2; Romans 3:23

ABOUT SALVATION

Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it.

We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

ABOUT ETERNAL LIFE

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot "lose" it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

John 10:28-29; II Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10, 14; I Peter 1:3-5

ABOUT ETERNITY

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

John 3:16, 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; I Corinthians 2:7-9.

A Church Where jesus Christ Is Truly Magnified!

Our Church History

History of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church

Located in the Beautiful City of Seaside, CA

The late Rev. J.W. Paige received a vision to organize a Church, and God made that vision a reality on February 12, 1959, at a meeting in the home of the late Rev. The physical changes and spiritual blessings from God have allowed the  Church to reach countless men, women, boys, and girls as they experience the challenges and pitfalls of this life. One real challenge was the Coronavirus  (COVID-19) Pandemic that emerged in China in December 2019. That virus spread worldwide and on March 11, 2020, was declared a pandemic.  Monterey County was shut down on March 15, 2020 (churches, schools,  restaurants, and businesses closed) and only designated essential workers were allowed to work. The entire world was affected. Supplies were limited,  vaccinations were required/recommended, and life seemed miserable…but God!

Pastor Carter prayed for God’s direction in responding to COVID-19. Initially, worship services were suspended. We soon began holding Sunday School and Worship Services online (via Google Meets), and the “The Voices of  Hope” provided music for Worship Services. Thereafter, we added  Wednesday night Bible Study online. On January 30, 2023, President  Biden’s Administration declared the end of the emergency and we returned to the sanctuary wearing masks. Many of our members lost their lives to the pandemic. Their names are included in the list of Deceased Members.

God called four Pastors to guide New Hope BC through this life’s journey:  The Late Rev. J. W. Paige (from the birth of the Church to his retirement on January 12, 1975); Rev. J. P. Anderson (June 12, 1975, through his resignation on January 1976); the Late Rev. Benjamin Charles Franklin (from July 1976 until

his retirement on November 5, 2000); and, our current Pastor, Rev. ML  Carter, who was called on November 6, 2000.

Under Pastor Carter’s leadership, the following Associate Ministers have been licensed and/or ordained to preach the gospel: Rev. Ramon Hyde, Rev.  David Evans, Rev. David Walker, Rev. Armando Rios, Rev. Colin Larkin, Rev.  Jimmy Welch, Rev. Daniel Kidd, Rev. Jessie Boone, Rev. Warren Tropet, Rev. Roderick Parker and Rev. Willie Brown.

We are truly thankful to God for blessing us with all of our Pastors. Each has continued the legacy of "Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ" in season and out of season. Their focus has always been “winning souls for Jesus Christ.”  And under their preaching, teaching, and leadership, the Church (we are the  Church!) continues to grow physically and spiritually. To God be the glory for the things He has done, is doing, and will do in the lives of the members of  New Hope Missionary Baptist Church!

Our Church Covenant

1st Corinthians 11: 23-26

"This Do In Remembrance Of Me"

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our

Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father,

and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, angels and this

assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body

in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to

strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge and holiness; to give it a place in

our affections, prayers and services above every organization of human origin; to sustain

its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrine; to contribute cheerfully and regularly, as

God has prospered us, towards its expenses, for the support of a faithful and evangelical

ministry among us, the relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel throughout the

world.  In case of difference of opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious

spirit, and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the

majority to govern.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study diligently the word of

God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquain-

tance; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our employ, and

faithful in the service we promise others; endeavoring in the purity of  heart and good

will towards all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith.

We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other unto every

good word and work; to guard each other's reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirm-

ities of others; to participate in each other’s joys, and with tender sympathy bear one

another's burdens and sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take

offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Savior in the

eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and through life, amid evil

report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, who hath called us out of

darkness into his marvelous light.

When we remove from this place, we engage, as soon as possible, to unite with some

other church where we can carry out the spirit of his covenant and the principles of God's word.
